| NOTES: |
|
The first of four new Nationwide Tour events on the 2010 schedule takes place
this week, as tour players travel to Colombia for the inaugural Pacific
Rubiales Bogota Open. Ten of the top-12 players on the money list are in the
field this week.
This is the first Nationwide Tour event ever held in South America. PGA Tour
player and world No. 21 Camilo Villegas is a native of Colombia. Villegas is
playing in the pro-am this week and is also conducting a youth event. His
younger brother, Manuel, is playing in the tournament. Manuel finished sixth
at the Moonah Classic in early February.
NASCAR star and Bogota native Juan Pablo Montoya will serve as host of the
Juan Pablo Montoya Celebrity Pro-Am on Tuesday. Montoya is an avid golfer and
serves on the board of The First Tee of South Florida.
The tournament will be played at the Country Club of Bogota, which was founded
in 1917. It was the first club in Colombia to have a golf course. The club
features two 18-hole golf courses and serves as one of Colombia's most
important sports infrastructures. The Country Club of Bogota has hosted the
Colombian Open 10 times. Bernhard Langer won the event contested here in 1980.
Pacific Rubiales is a Canadian-listed producer of oil and natural gas with
headquarters in Bogota. The company is the largest independent oil and gas
exploration and production company in Colombia. The company is focused on
identifying growth opportunities in Colombia and northern Peru.
The Nationwide Tour returns in three weeks in Louisiana for the Chitimacha
Louisiana Open, where Bubba Dickerson captured the 2009 title.
