Darley Stable?s 3-year-old BERNARDINI finished first in the Dodge Classic
Division of the Breeders? Cup World Championships Poll in final voting by the
select panel of journalists and handicappers prior to the Breeders? Cup World
Championships on November 4 at Churchill Downs.
Bernardini, the likely favorite for the $5 million Breeders? Cup Classic,
Powered by Dodge - has won the Preakness Stakes, Jim Dandy, Travers and Jockey
Club Gold Cup this year. STD Racing and Jason Wood?s 5-year-old gelding LAVA
MAN, undefeated in seven starts this year, finished second in the Classic
Division for trainer Doug O?Neill.
Juddmonte Farms? CACIQUE (IRE) edged out James Scatuorchio?s 4-year-old
ENGLISH CHANNEL by one point in the John Deere Turf Division. The 5-year-old
Cacique, trained by Bobby Frankel, won both the Manhattan Handicap and the Man
o?War this year. English Channel, trained by Todd Pletcher, won both the
United Nations Handicap and the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic.
Ballygallon Stud?s ARAGORN (IRE) was voted No. 1 in the NetJets Mile Division.
The 4-year-old son of Giant?s Causeway has won his last four races on the West
Coast, including the Shoemaker Breeders? Cup Mile for trainer Neil Drysdale.
Aragorn finished ahead of Martin Schwartz?s 4-year-old filly GORELLA (FR), who
won Saturday?s Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
Lord Derby?s OUIJA BOARD (GB) led the Emirates Airline Filly & Mare Turf
Division over Arindel Farm?s 3-year-old filly WAIT A WHILE. The 5-year-old
Ouija Board, who captured the 2004 Breeders? Cup Filly & Mare Turf, won the
Prince of Wales?s Stakes over male rivals in June. Wait a While has won four
consecutive races for trainer Todd Pletcher, most recently the Yellow Ribbon
Stakes at Santa Anita.
Another runner from the Pletcher barn, Paul Saylor?s five year-old mare FLEET
INDIAN, finished No. 1 in the Emirates Airline Distaff Division. Fleet Indian
has won all six of her starts this year, including last week?s Beldame at
Belmont Park
J. Paul Reddam owns the top finishers in both the Bessemer Trust Juvenile and
Juvenile Fillies Divisions. Reddam?s 2-year-old colt GREAT HUNTER, who won
last week?s Lane?s End Breeders? Futurity, finished first in the Bessemer
Trust Juvenile Division for trainer Doug O?Neill. Reddam?s 2-year-old filly
CASH INCLUDED, winner of the Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita, finished atop the
Juvenile Fillies Division for trainer Craig Dollase.
Zabeel Racing International?s 3-year-old HENNY HUGHES, winner of the Vosburgh
and King?s Bishop Stakes, was voted No. 1 in the TVG Sprint Division over Fred
Carrillo and Daniel Cassella?s 5-year-old gelding BORDONARO, winner of the
Ancient Title Breeders? Cup at Santa Anita.
The Breeders? Cup World Championships Poll is a weekly listing of the top 10
contenders in all eight Breeders? Cup World Championships races as voted upon
by a panel of prominent international journalists and handicappers. The panel
will rank active and in-training horses, regardless of geographic location in
the following divisions: Emirates Airline Distaff; NetJets Mile; TVG Sprint;
Emirates Airline Filly & Mare Turf; John Deere Turf, Dodge Classic, Bessemer
Trust Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies.
